Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!

Also known as a Red Admirable.

   Red Admirals prefer to dwell in the warmer parts of Mexico, USA, northern Canada, Newfoundland, Churchill, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Europe and northern regions of Asia, Africa. 

   They fly during during the day and the night. 

   The males defend and fight other males for the protection of the females.

   They are unafraid of human beings and are often found sitting calmly sit on them.

    During the winter, they live for about 9 months. However, in the summer, these species live for about 4 – 6 months. 

   Red Admirals are not considered endangered. 

   The Red Admiral symbolizes the soul or the spirit.     Some traditional cultures consider them to be a transformation of the soul or a resurrection.

Avg. Wingspan: 5 - 8 cm / 2 - 3.15" 

Diet:  Adults feed on fermenting fruits, sap of the trees, flowers, milkweed, flower weed and aster. 

The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
